What interesting things emerge from chapter 24?

  1. In chapter 24 of "To Kill A Mockingbird" By Harper Lee, i feel that this chapter will cause tension to rise in the book. In Chapter 24, Aunt Alexandra's missionary circle came to the finch house. A missionary circle is a group of women from church who discuss and study words of god, Whereas in the story Alexandra's circle only gossips and says racist remarks. Another strange thing also emerged from Chapter 24. In the middle of the missionary meeting atticus asks to see Aunt Alexandra and reveals that Tom Robinson had died trying to escape prison and had been shot 17 times. These are some interesting things i feel have emerged from Chapter 24.

  2. The interesting part about this is a Missionary circle is a women's church group where the members study word of God on a regular basis. The circle seeks to help its members grow in knowledge and experience through continual Christian training. The group meets on designated days other than Sundays and may involve visits to homes of its members. But on this sunday they were talking about the africans and how they feel sorry for them. on page, (in the old book) 262, they let scout or as they call her jean louis, join the missionary circle. But the most interesting part was page 268 when Atticus told aunt Alexandra that tom robinson was shot 17 times. That to me was sad but interesting. why did they have to shoot him 17 times. If he was shot 1 or 2 times it would have been shocking. But 17 is unnecessary and low for a human being to do.

  3. I feel that some interesting things that emerge from chapter 24 of the missionary circle for to kill a mokingbird is that aunt Alexandra is very mean and racist because calpurnia where's her stiffest starched apron to serve the ladies in that meeting and even though calpurnia is a female too aunt Alexandra still doesn't invite her to join them in their discussion only to serve them I guess since aunt Alexandra is racist she don't want calpurnia to join cause even though she is a female she is still black.

  4. Some of the interesting things that come from the ministry circle were all of the women showed their true colors. They were hypocrites in their talked so much about how bad they felt about the black people in Africa but treat the blacks in their hometown like dogs.another interesting thing was the irony that came right after their conversation Attcus came in the room and announced that Tom had been shot 17 times at an attempt to escape.

  5. One thing I find interesting in chapter 24 was the missionary circle because the women were gossiping and discussing ways to help people that are less fortunate then themselves. They shared the news about Tom Robinson's death when he was shot trying to escape from jail.

  6. I found the part when Scout says she wants to become a lady interesting because I didn't expect Scout to say something like that. Scout is the type of girl who challenges the norms of society. She challenges the way normal girls are supposed to act so it is strange in a way that Scout wants to change suddenly. Miss Stephanie Crawford says, "Don't you wanna grow up to be a lawyer?". Scout responds saying, "Nome, just a lady."[pg.308] In addition, on page 105, Scout originally says, ".....not particularly," to when Uncle Jack asks Scout if she wants to grow up to be a lady. Generally speaking, when you know what you want to grow up to be in life, you stay on that track in your life. Scout must have been influenced by Aunt Alexandra to want to become a lady because when Jem and Uncle Jack try to change her mind, she objects on pages 153 and 105.

  8. What had an interesting emerge from chapter 24, was that on (page 315) Atticus had told Aunt Alexandra that Tom Robinson was "Dead" and that he was "shot 17 times" but what was also interesting was that Aunt Alexandra had a weary look on her face and that when she spoke her, voice was flat. Very likely Aunt Alexandra seems to feel some type of sympathy for Tom Robinson a "Negro" because back in the previous time Aunt Alexandra didn't like "Negros" because she didn't like Calpurnia because she was black, so there seems to be a lot of change to Aunt Alexandra in to realizing that Blacks should be treat just like white people and that Tom should of been treated with a fair trial like every one else in Maycomb.

  9. There was a lot of things that I found interesting in chapter 24, but one thing that I found to be very interesting in this chapter was when the misionary circle had met in Atticus livingroom. While themeeting was starting Mrs. Merriweather told Gertrude that she al was forgive and forget. In the text It states " Oh that. Well I always forgive and forget, forgive and forget. thing that church ought to do is help her lead a Christian life for those children from here on out..." (Pg. 309-310). If Mrs. Merriweather was so forgetful, why was she in that circle than, because al the y día was gossip about Maycomb and mostrar of the gossip soul debe in a negative perspective. It seems to me that if your still bring the subjefe up than your not really forgetting.

  10. To begin the missionary circle is a group of women who discuss the world of god. Some interesting things emerge from chapter 24 is when the chapter had first begun Aunt Alexandra and her missionary circle had had a fight that had took place all over the house. In the text it states"from the kitchen, I heard Mrs.Grace Merriweather giving a report in the livingroom on the squalid lives of the Mrunas, it sounded like it to me". [Pg.305] After they was having there little fight they had to sit down in the livingroom and discuss what was happening. Aunt Alexandra wanted Scout to join in the discussion but she didn't really know if she should attend the meeting or not. Scout stated that it was no need for her to join the business part because it would make her bored. Going further more with Aunt Alexandra she was changing a little bit because when she was told that Tom Robinson had got shot 17 times and he dead she basically seem as she cared. Back in she was just gossiping back in the missionary circle but she didn't do that. In the text it states" didn't they try in stop him? Didn't they give him any warning? Aunt Alexandra's voice shook." [Pg315.] I'm starting to notice that soon as she found this out she was a whole different person she had changed a lot.

  11. Something that was important about the missionary circle was that this was the first time that Scout really acted like a young lady. She was really showing a side of her that the ladies at the missionary circle have not seen before because she was always running around with Jem and Dill. When Scout was there she hade to take over Calpurnia gob which was passing out cookies and pouring more tea. Another thing that happened in the missionary circle was that the ladies in the group was talking about the Tom Robinson and his wife Helen Robinson. Mrs.Merriweather stated "That darky's wife" I think that this mean that she is not racist at all because she does not say that "nigga wife".

  12. Some interesting things that have happened in chapter 24 was when dill was getting ready to leave to go back home. This was interesting to me because
Scout likes dill and didn't want him to leave to go back home it's also interesting to me because when it says that dill is ready and getting ready to back home it means that summer has come to an end and that their time playing with each other and trying to make boo radley come out of the house was over and lastly because they were going to be starting a new year in the next grade. Another thing that was interesting to me was the Missionary circle. The missionary circle was also very interesting to me because in this part of the story it had began to get more interesting because in that circle they were beginning to really talk about the things and the people that they didn't like. In chapter 24 Tom Robinson had got shot multiple times from trying to escape from jail. This was interesting to me also because this part of the chapter had shocked a lot of people because they didn't expect Tom Robinson to escape from jail and gets shot. The last thing that was interesting to me is how scout was beginning to change the way she is. This was interesting to me because I didn't really think that scout would actually listen to what aunt Alexandra was trying to make her do and change.

  13. One of the interesting things that emerged in chapter 24 of ''To Kill A Mockingbird'' is that Tom Robinson gets killed while trying to escape the prison. On page 315 it states, ''Oh yes, the guards called to him to stop. They fired a few shots in the air, then to kill. They got him just as he went over the fence. They said if he'd had two good arms he'd have made it, he was moving that fast. Seventeen bullet holes in him. They didn't have to shoot him that much. Cal, I want you to come out with me and help me tell Helen.'' This tells me that all of them feel quite shocked and feel sympathy for Tom because he didn't deserve to die. I also feel that Atticus is the most shocked because that was the client that he couldn't plead not guilty so he feels bad that he had to die in that certain way. Another thing that occurs in chapter 24 is the missionary circle. The missionary circle is a group of ladies that have to talk about God but instead it seems that they are gossiping about things that are going on throughout the town. On page 310 it states, ''Mrs. Merriweather faced Mrs. Farrow: ''Gertrude, I tell you there's nothing more distracting than a sulky darky. Their mouths go down to here. Just ruins your day to have one of 'em in the kitchen''. This shows me that the group is rather hypocritical of the town then worshipping the name of God.

  14. In To Kill A Mockingbird something I found interesting that merged in chapter 24 was the missionary circle. It's a group leaded by aunt Alexander and a couple of women from the church gathering together to talk and study the word of god on daily basis. But on this same sunday they was talking to each other about the africans and how they feel sorry for them. Something else that merged in To Kill A Mockingbird is the death of Tom Roberson how he was shoot 17 times trying to escape from jail jumping the gate that surround the jail.

  15. What's interesting in chapter 24 , is Aunt Alexandra is changing but not in the way of her not being racist. We all know Aunt Alexandra is known for being racist, likes to gossip, and is trying to change Scout to become a young lady. But in chapter 24, she was having her Missionary circle. Were its suppose to be a group of ladies that discuss god, but they weren't talking about god at all. The missionary circle was gossiping about every one, but Aunt Alexandra was being told that Tom died, and was shot 17 times because he tried to escape. We all would have thought since Aunt Alexandra loved to gossip she would have went to the circle telling all of Tom's business but she didn't. So I felt that was interesting to me.

  16. What is interesting about chapter 24 is that it talks about the missionary circle that Aunt Alexandra is holding. They talk about different things with most of the ladies in her neighborhood. What I also noticed was that scout was trying to become a lady. Also that in that chapter it talks about Aunt Alexandra changing because she usually gossip a lot but now it seemed that she sat down and was finally thinking about what happened to Tom Robinson. In the story it states " Aunt Alexandra sat down in put her hands to her face. She sat quite still" (p.g 315). This made me think that she had of been changing if she didn't go into the missionary circle and start to gossip. In the story it also states that" I carefully picked up the tray and watched myself walk to Mrs. Merriweather. With my best company manners, I asked her if she would have some. After all if aunty could be a lady at a time like this, so could I" (p.g 318). This shows me that the reason why she didn't want to change because she thought that if Aunt Alexandra didn't change than she didn't have to so basically since Aunt Alexandra changed then she feel that she could after all.

  17. The concept of God which is actually a binding force behind creation of the universe died down in the waves of belittling living less fortunate human beings. A useless congregation engaged in small talks
