Reactions...What do you think of what you've read?

React to chapters 18 and 19 in To Kill a Mockingbird.

  1. I don't understand why Mayella Ewell would keep trying to testify after it was clearly proven that Tom Robinson couldn't have hit her. I also think that it was unfair that Tom Robinson was even fount guilty just because he felt sorry for her. I believe the case should have been over after it was proven that Tom was right handed. This shows me how racist the system is and how it acts against African American people.

  2. So far in chapter 18 I noticed that Tom Robinson he couldn't have raped her because if he would have raped her they would have knew. Tom Robinson didn't do it because he is right handed and Mr.Ewell is left handed. If Tom would have hit her then her left eye would have been black not her right eye. In the text it states "he blacked your left eye with his right fist." Tom didn't do it because his left arm was 12 inches shorter then his right. Moving on toward the story they started to ask her questions about did she think to scream or not she didn't give any answers. In the text it states " who beat you up? Tom Robinson or your Father? No Answer." If she felt that Tom Robinson did it she should have been very thirsty to answer the question. She should have defended herself and stated that Tom Did it.

In chapter 18 Mayella was testifying and telling judge Taylor what had happened on the evening of November then she started bussing into fake tears so she can get attention from the audience and make it seem like she really didn't want to talk about what Tom Robinson did to her. She was trying to get the jury sorry for her and she said that she was about to go into her house and get the nickel then he followed her beat and choke her then when her dad came he ran. I believe that she is lying and just want black African Americans to be behind bars because she is racist. Tom Robinson wouldn't harm anyone in any kind of way because he not that kind of person that would do anything like that.

  4. So far my reactions to chapters 18 and19 of to kill a mokingbird is very exciting and suspicious for me because when Mayella go to tell of her side of the story for the rape by Tom Robinson it sounds like she was certain he did it but when it's Tom turn and he tell his side of the story it sounds like he was the victim of getting raped by Mayella so it sounds suspicious for me to decide who to believe.
