  1. I can compare to tom Robinson's and mayella testimony because Tom and mayella seemed very annoyed by all the questions that were being thrown at them. As the questions kept pilling up, especially asking Tom did he rape mayella and asking mayella personal questions, they both were getting high raised voices in order of defense for themselves. The contrast of this is mayella was beginning to reveal herself when Atticus asked her did bob Ewell raped her, she was pretty slow answering those questions. When they kept asking him the same questions over and over again, he was remaining with what he said and spoke his negro language fluently.

    1. Where is the information from the story to support that Tom and Mayella seemed very annoyed.

  2. After hearing the testimonies from Mayella and Tom there were a lot of differences and similarities. Mayella claimed that she asked Tom to come cut up some chifferobe and in return she would give him a nickel. She said as she turned away to go get the nickel Tom then started attacking her. Then she said her father seen tom and chased him off. Tom told the story different. He said that Mayella told him she had a job for him to do inside of the house. He came in the house and she told him the task and as he was on the chair she grabbed his legs. Then she tried to kiss him but her father seen and called her a whore. In comparison one major difference in the stories is Tom said Mr.Ewell caught her trying to kiss Tom. But in Mayella's testimony she said her father found her raped and chased Tom away. The shared common situations are that Mayella did promise to give him a nickel if he cut up the chifferobe. The biggest difference is Mayella made it like Tom raped her but really she came on to him.

  3. From reading the book to kill a mokingbird by Harper lee I could compare and contrast the testimony of Mayella and Tom Robinson because in their testimonies they both say something and use their reactions to make the reader, or the jury of the court believe that they both is testsifying against what they is accused of because Mayella says that she was trying to be nice by asking Tom to fix something for her and he takes advantage by raping her and Tom says that Mayella ask Tom to fix something for her and he acts nice and goes to fix it but she takes advantage by hugging him and kissing him like she was gonna rape him.and I could contrast because Mayella cries a lot when Atticus ask her questions so she gots to be lying but when mr. Gilmore ask Tom questions he acts very serious and calm so you can tell that he is telling the truth about what he says happen.

  4. In Mayella Ewell testimony was unlike Tom Robinson testimony because Mayella was trying to hide something from the questions that Atticus was asking her. She was trying to hide and lie on Tom about what he was doing to her when he went in the house for To fix something inside. Mayella claimed that Tom raped her but she never said what she did to Tom. Whereas in Tom testimony he was being honest he was not trying to lie about what happened he said that he went in the house and help Mayella with what she asked him to do. But he was being honest about what he did to Mayella when she kissed him and he tried to get her off. He was not trying to hide anything from the questions that was being asked he was being up front with everything that happened.

  5. There were many differences between both testimonies of Mayella Ewell and Tom Robinson. One major difference that I noticed between Mayella's testimony and Tom's testimony is that Mayella says that Tom tried to rape and beat her, Tom basically says that her dad raped her and beat her. In the text Mayella says " I-he slung me down. That's what he did, he (Tom Robinson) slung me down'n got on top of me" (pg. 250). Mayella seems to be un sure of what to say to the jury about what had happened. Also, in the text Tom says " She (Mayella Ewell) says she never kissed a grown man before an' she might as well kiss a nigger. She says what her papa do to her don't count" (pg.260). Tom was basically getting to the point about Bob Ewell raping Mayella and not Tom. They both told two totally different stories to the jury.

  6. The difference between Mayella's testimony from Tom's testimony is that she was getting caught in her lie when Atticus Finch was interrogating her and cross examining her. In the text it states "No I dont recollect if he hit me. I mean yes I do, he hit me." I said that because Mr.Finch was getting her caught up. But however in the text it states that "What did your father see in the window, the crime of rape or the best defense to it? Why dont you tell the truth, child, didnt Bob Ewell beat you up?" I said that because thats when Atticus was getting feisty with Mayella.

The difference between Tom Robinson's testimony from Mayella's is that he was telling nothing but the truth, but the difference was Tom was getting disrespected by Mr.Gilmer, but when it was Mayella's turn she was getting the judge to feel sorry for her because she felt that Mr.Finch was going to try to interrogate her so it the text it states " Dont want him doin' me like he done papa, tryin' to make him out lefthanded..."

  7. However Mayella testimony she tries to make a big lie and scene that Tom Robinson raped her, Tom Robinson tries to defend himself and tell them the story about how he didn't rape the girl. Mayella was trying to hide the fact that she know her father raped her in contrast Tom Robinson was trying to tell them that he only walked over to help her out. Tom Language that he spoke he was very clear he always made his explanation clear unlike Dakota when she couldn't answer any question she was giving no answer and was study crying. In the text it states " " "Tom did you rape Mayella Ewell ? I did not suh. Did you harm her in anyway? I did not suh. Pg (260). Mayella was asked a question do she love her daddy but when he drink she didn't want to tell truth differs from Tom Robinson knew on the other hand that she wasn't telling the truth because her daddy get drunk and rape her. In the text it states" He does tollable, crept when- except when? Except when nothing said Mayella. Except when he drinking? Mayella nodded." (Pg245)

  8. In the testimony of Tom he stated that Mayella came on to him in contrast of that Mayella stated that he rapped her. In the story it stated " no suh, I works in his yard fall and wintertime" (p.g 255). This shows that Tom is very well mannered to be a colored person and also very calm while talking nothing is bothering him.In the story it states " that nigger yonder took advantage of me an if you fine fancy gentlemen don't wanta do nothing about it then you're all yellow stinkin cowards"(p.g 251). This shows that Mayella was very angry and it makes me wonder that all the questions had her mad and when she called them cowards I felt she did that because she felt guilty.

  9. There are many differences between Mayella's and Tom Robinson's testimony.
Mayella was fragile looking whereas Tom Robinson is a big bodied man with muscle. In Mayella's testimony, Mayella was confident. However, in Tom Robinson's testimony, he was anxious and hesitant. On page 260, "the witness swallowed hard,"during Tom Robinson's testimony.
Although they are different, they do have their similarities. Both Mayella and Thomas got nervous when they were cross examined. One similarity is that Mayella is uneducated and Tom is uneducated as well. Mayella and Tom both speak the same way.

  10. In both trials, Mayella and Tom were both accused to not telling the truth about what happened on November 21st. In the text it states,''What did your father see in the window, the crime of rape or the best defense to it ?Why don't you tell the truth, child, didn't Bob Ewell beat you up?''. Atticus was very contradicting Mayella's claim on what happened because Tom got his hand stuck in a cotton gin so his left arm is shorter than his right so how could he have beat her right side of her face if his arm is messed up.Now Mr Ewells left arm is just fine so it is possible that he could have beat her about the face on her right side. During Tom's testimony it states , '' But you weren't in a fix you testified that you were resisting Miss Ewell. Were you so scared that she'd hurt you, you ran, a big buck like you?''No suh, I's scared I'd be in court, just like I am now.'' Scared of arrest, scared you'd have to face up to what you did?''. Mr Gilmer was also assuming that Tom wasnt telling the truth. I dont understand why they think that Tom would lie when he knows what kind of town he lives in . In my point of view, i believe that Tom is telling the truth because he is a caring black man with a wife and four children. He wouldnt jeopardize that by committing a bad crime. Mr. Ewell is a drunk. He spends most of the family's money on beer and whiskey. It is highly possible that he could have beat and raped Mayella because he has ''liquid courage''. Also, during Tom's testimony it states, ''The witness swallowed hard, ''She reached up an' kissed me ' side of th ' face. She says she never kissed a grown man before an' she might as well kiss a nigger. She says what her papa do to her don't count.'' That tells me that Bob Ewell may have beaten her and raped her from time to time. In Mayella's testimony she was very emotional and seemed to get irritated very quickly. In the text it states,''I got somethin' to say an' then I ain't gonna say no more. That nigger yonder took advantage of me an' if you fine fancy gentlemen don't wanta do nothin' about it then you're all yellow stinkin' cowards, stinkin' cowards, the lot of you. Tour fancy airs dont come to nothin' your ma'amin and Miss Mayellerin' dont come to nothin', Mr. Finch''. Mayella was getting very frustrated and irritated while she was being asked questions which tells me that she cant take the stand. She cant take what did or did not happen that day. During Tom's testimony, it states, ''Mr Finch, I was runnin ' so fast I didn't know what happened.'' ''Tom , did you rape Mayella Ewell?'' I did not, suh.'' That tells me that Tom has nothing to hide and he is most likely not lying because he is very calm.
